BIOGRAPHY
John started as a standup comic at Catch A Catch A Rising Star and the Improvisation in New York. He was a main stay in those clubs for several years, as well as running the show at Catch A Rising Star for three years, before turning to full time writing, which began with writing jokes for Rodney Dangerfield, David Letterman, Billy Crystal, Elaine Boosler, Joe Piscopo, and a lot of etcs.
John wrote for Saturday Night Live,
The Tonight Show, and several sitcoms
including an episode of Seinfeld
(development period) and Parker Lewis.
He was the head writer for the critically
acclaimed syndicated political satire
show, D.C. Follies, and was the
supervising producer and head writer for
the ACE Award winning Joe Piscopo
special on HBO. He recently wrote a
pilot script for HBO that takes place in
1960’s (slightly before his time). Just prior
to that John produced, what a competing
network said, “was the best special ever
done about standup comedy”, Comedy
Club Super Stars on ABC. John has
written and directed “The Last Request”
a soon to be released feature film starring
Danny Aiello and T.R. Knight. (Grey’s
Anatomy)
John is proud to say he is one of
the founding board members of the
Comedy Hall Of Fame. Besides writing
for the screen and Television he was a
staff writer for Perfect Ten Magazine,
under the supervision of Pulitzer Prize
nominated author David Black.
John has never gotten the standup
bug out of his system and performs
periodically. During one of his returns to
standup he was a finalist in the LA
regional Improvisation Vail Comedy
Contest and was invited to perform at the
Improvisation Vail Comedy festival. He
completed a standup comedy tour of
Europe, which included London and the
U.K., Ireland, Paris, and Amsterdam and
appeared in three episodes of “Make Me
Laugh”.
